Course Overview

Introduction to Vinyasa Yoga

Breaking down the fundamentals of Vinyasa Yoga we will explore the yoga poses that comprise the components of a vinyasa class, pranayama (breathing techniques) and Bhandas, and learn how to move in and out of postures safely, with correct alignment, using the breath as the guide. The asanas included are: Surya Namaskars (Sun Salutations), standing poses, balancing postures, core strengtheners, seated and reclining postures. We will explore the roots of Vinyasa Yoga, the Ashtanga Yoga system, as well as creative flows from Jivamukti and Shiva Rea’s Prana Flow.

The Art of Sequencing

  • Dynamic two hour practice sessions
  • Discussion of how to create classes based both on sequencing around “peak poses” as well as based on “element or feeling”
  • Group practice sessions creating sequences based on peak poses and themes
  • Learning to think and work outside your comfort zone
  • Dynamic suggestions to break through a stale home practice or teaching style
  • Q&A discussion on creating playlists

Adjustments, Enhancements and Advanced Asana

We will give you the tools to safely adjust students in common and advances yoga poses. You will adjust with more confidence, giving your students the support they need to go further into their asana practice. You will also learn how to move in and out of advanced yoga poses safely and how to teach these asana to your students.

How To Weave Philosophy Into the Vinyasa

This part of the training will bring us back to more esoteric parts of the practice, with the emphasis being Gita and Tantra. It will help you understand why yogic philosophy is a vital part of the practice and show you how to incorporate more esoteric principles into the physical yoga practice. We will discuss the Gita and the Tantric Quest, creating themes that can be used in class.
